AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis program notched a 9-0 victory over visiting Belmont Abbey Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The win pushes the Pacers' mark to 5-5 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team raced through the doubles portion of the match with little trouble. The No. 1 tandem of Julien Tan and Alejandro Andino posted an 8-5 victory. Second-seeded Clement Raymond and Mathias Degardin notched an 8-1 win while Ettore Damiani and Ronan Reberac garnered an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 slot.
Damiani moved to 2-0 on the day with his 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top spot in singles action. Tan's singles match was the closest competition of the day. He opened the No. 2 slot with a 6-4 win, but lost a 6-4 decision in the second set. However, Tan bounced back for a 10-6 victory in the third set.
Andy Quirk won a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 slot while Raymond tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot. Degardin won by a 6-1, 6-1 count at the No. 5 position while Andino helped the team record the shutout with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
The Pacers return to action on Sunday, March 22, when they play at GRU Augusta. The match is slated to start at 12 p.m.
