AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 contest to Queens Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-1 on the young season.
Despite the score, it was a tight contest as five of the six singles matches went to three sets.
Top-seeded Nadine Tusiama garnered a victory. After losing the first set, she stormed back to win by scores of 6-3, 6-3. Second-seeded Sarah Bernos notched a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win.
However, USC Aiken was unable to register any more wins.
Oliver Veskovac, playing at No. 4, won the first stanza 6-4, but lost the next two by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Kayla Calvert lost the first set 6-1 at the No. 5 position, but fought back to win the second set by a score of 6-4. However, Jaclyn Rock edged her in the third set 10-7.
Marie Habiyaremye lost the first set at No. 6, but bounced back to take a 6-4 victory in the second set before losing third frame 10-5.
The team returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Coker for a 2 p.m., contest.
