AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a 5-4 decision to visiting Queens Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 0-3 on the young season.
After dropping all three doubles matches, head coach Steve Dahm's team put forth an outstanding charge in singles action.
Top-seeded Ettore Damiani lost a three-set decision. After winning the first set 6-3, he dropped the next two by scores of 6-2, 6-3. However, Julien Tan garnered a huge victory at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Third-seeded Andy Quirk was also on the winning side as he boasted a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Clement Raymond, playing as the No. 4 seed, won a three-set thriller. After claiming the first set 6-4, he lost the second one 7-5. Raymond tallied an 11-9 victory in the third set for the victory.
Mathias Degardin also won a three-set match at the No. 5 position. He won the first set 6-1 before falling by a 6-4 score in the second frame. However, he fought back to emerge victorious with a 7-6 third-set win.
The team returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Coker for a 2 p.m., contest.
