AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team started off its conference schedule with an impressive 6-3 victory over North Georgia.
The Pacers are now 2-0 overall, including a 1-0 effort against PBC competition.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. The No. 1 tandem of Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams posted an 8-4 victory. Third-seeded Marie Aimée Habiyaremye and Oliver Veskovac notched an 8-6 win.
USC Aiken narrowly missed out on being up 3-0, but the No. 2 seed of Sarah Bernos and Kayla Calvert lost a 9-7 decision.
Tusiama pushed the Pacers' lead to 3-1 by winning her singles match at the top spot by scores of 6-4, 6-0. Williams, playing as the No. 3 seed, garnered a 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 win while Veskovac took home the win at the No. 4 position. She won by scores of 6-1, 0-6, 7-5.
Calvert picked up her second consecutive singles victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot.
The Pacers return to action Sunday when they host Queens in a contest starting at 1 p.m.
