AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to North Georgia Saturday evening in a PBC contest.
The Pacers are now 0-2 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team fell behind 3-0 after doubles competition. However, it was extremely close as it could have easily been 2-1 in favor of the home squad. Ettore Damiani and Alejandro Andino dropped a 9-8 (2) decision at the No. 1 spot while Ronan Reberac and Mathias Degardin lost an 8-6 contest at the No. 3 spot.
Dahm's team tried to pull even in singles action, but the squad could only post three victories.
Damiani came out and performed well at the No. 1 slot, winning 6-2, 6-1. Julien Tan, playing as the No. 2 seed, won 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. Andino played a super-set, taking down his competition by a 9-7 count as the No. 6 student-athlete.
Andy Quirk and Clement Raymond each had matches that went into extra points. Quirk, at the No. 3 position, lost 2-6, 6-4, 2-6 while Raymond dropped a 2-6, 6-4 (5) contest at the No. 5 slot.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they host Queens in a contest starting at 1 p.m.
