Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - The No. 14 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team pushed nine runs across in the first inning en route to a 19-6 victory over visiting Trevecca Nazarene while Kody Belcher tied a school record Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 5-0 on the young season while the Trojans fall to 0-2.
Hurler Erik Davis stifled the visitors as he did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. He ended up allowing two runs on two hits, but struck out four while registering 5.1 outstanding innings of work to pick up the victory.
Belcher tied the USC Aiken single-game record with five hits in the contest.
Belcher led off the bottom of the first with a double to center field. He trotted home on Sean Miller's double to right field. Tyler Moore followed him up with a single, plating Miller. Ty Barkell ripped a single to left center, allowing Moore to scamper to second base. TJ Costen flied out to center field, but Moore advanced to third. He came home on an error just prior to Matt Bosse smacking a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Chaz Pal singled and moved to third on Zach Moon's single. After Cory Bryant walked to load the bases, Belcher singled home two. Miller's single to center scored another run for head coach Kenny Thomas' team. Two batters later, Costen walked with the bases loaded, driving in the ninth run of the stanza.
USC Aiken got right back to its scoring ways in the second stanza. Pal singled to lead things off and moved to second on Moon's single. Bryant's single loaded the bags for the Pacers. Belcher singled home Pal. After back-to-back strikeouts, Barkell walked and Costen's single each drove in a run, pushing the score to 12-0.
In the third inning, Moon launched a two-run round-tripper over the left field fence after Pal reached on an error, making it 14-0.
The Trojans scratched across a pair of runs in the sixth, making it 14-2.
After being held scoreless for two frames, the Pacers' bats got hot once again in the sixth inning. Barkell reached on an error and moved to third on Costen's double to left center field. Bosse's groundout allowed Barkell to cross home for the first run of the stanza. Pal's grounder pushed Costen across the plate.
Moon was hit by a pitch and Bryant's infield single pushed Moon to second. Both came home on Belcher's three-run shot over the right-field fence.
Joe Marlow worked 1.2 scoreless innings while Jared Felix pitched a stanza, striking out one. Collin Beasley saw his first collegiate action in the ninth, striking out two while giving up a hit.
The Pacers rattled off 19 runs on 21 hits with five errors. The Trojans accounted for six runs on four hits with six miscues.
Belcher accounted for his five hits and six RBI while scoring three runs. Miller added four hits, two RBI and scored once. Costen added a pair of hits and RBI while Bosse's lone hit was a three-run shot. Moon totaled three hits, two RBI and scored four times while Bryant had two hits and scored three times.
Belcher, Bosse and Moon had round-trippers while Belcher, Miller and Costen posted doubles.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m., for the final game of the three-game set.
