LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken lost an 8-1 decision at Georgia Gwinnett Wednesday in the season-opening event.
The lone bright spot for the Pacers in the match was newcomer Clement Raymond's 7-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team played well at No. 1 singles, but Ettore Damiani lost a 6-1, 7-5 decision. At the No. 4 slot, Mathias Degardin dropped a 6-4, 6-1 battle.
Julien Tan lost his match at the No. 2 spot by a 6-1, 6-1 count. Andy Quirk dropped his No. 3 contest by the same score. Alejandro Andino played at the No. 6 position, winning two games in the first set, but lost by a 6-2, 6-0 margin.
In doubles action, Degardin and Ronan Reberac posted the team's best finish. However, the squad lost an 8-4 contest at the No. 3 slot. Damiani and Andino were defeated by an 8-3 score at the No. 1 position. Tan and Raymond also lost by an identical 8-3 mark at the No. 2 spot.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host North Georgia in the home opener at 2:30 p.m.
