Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team dropped its regular-season finale to GRU Augusta by a score of 91-70.
The Pacers are now 17-11 on the season and wrapped up PBC play with a 13-6 mark.
Mackenzie Reese and Emry Tsitouris each contributed 13 points to lead USC Aiken in the loss. Amaura Brandt and Kate Duff added 10 markers apiece. Reese grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and dished out a game-best seven assists. Kassy Johannsen tallied eight points, which all came in the first half.
For the game, the Pacers connected on 28-of-66 from the floor (42.4 percent), but the home squad canned 27-of-48 (56.3 percent). USC Aiken hit just five-of-22 from downtown and nine-of-18 from the charity stripe.
The Pacers committed just 12 turnovers and forced 18. The squad also held an 11-7 margin on the offensive glass. USC Aiken registered five blocks to four by the opposition. The Pacers also held a 10-9 lead in the steals category.
USC Aiken recorded 19 points off the bench and tallied 15 second-chance points.
Head coach Mike Brandt's team fell behind 4-0, but battled back, evening the contest at 8-8 at the 15:31 mark when Reese canned a jumper. USC Aiken took a 12-10 lead when Johannsen netted four straight points, but it marked the only that the visitors would be in front.
Brandt's three-point basket off an assist by Reese tied the contest at 15. The teams traded baskets as Johannsen hit a jumper in the lane with just 7:53 to play, knotting the game at 17. However, the Jaguars went on a 15-2 run that spanned 4:28, taking a 32-19 lead at the 3:25 mark.
The Pacers pulled within nine on a pair of free throws by Reese with 1:37 to play, but GRU Augusta regained a 13-point margin at the break.
USC Aiken tried to make a comeback in the second half, but the home squad pushed the margin to 20 points just a couple of minutes into the period. Brandt's team was forced to take chances on defense, and the home team managed to hit its shots.
The Pacers host a first-round game against Clayton State in the upcoming PBC Tournament. Game-time is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday night.
