Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team had four student-athletes score in double figures in the 74-60 road win at Francis Marion.
The Pacers improve to 17-10 on the season and are 13-5 in league play. The Patriots fall to 8-19 overall and 5-13 against conference competition.
Redshirt-sophomore Amaura Brandt poured in a game-high 18 points. All 18 of her markers came from behind the three-point stripe. Carly Gilreath tallied a career-high 15 points and all of her points came from downtown. Stephanie Ball registered 14 points to go along with a game-high seven assists while Mackenzie Reese turned in a near triple-double performance with 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
For the game, the Pacers canned 43.3 percent of their shots from the floor (26-of-60) and were a sizzling 17-of-32 from deep (53.1 percent). The squad managed to get to the line just five times, but made all five of the attempts.
Head coach Mike Brandt's team distributed 22 assists in the game and forced 18 turnovers.
USC Aiken trailed 28-13 at the 8:54 mark, but quickly fought back. Brandt took a pass from Ball and converted a deep three-point basket. Gilreath netted a three-pointer on the team's next possession, making it 28-19.
Trailing 30-19, Emry Tsitouris converted an old-fashioned three-point play at the 6:55 mark. Gilreath and Ball hit back-to-back three-pointers, making it 30-28.Down by five, 33-28, Tsitouris pulled the visitors within three with 3:31 to play. Brandt and Ball hit back-to-back shots for a 35-33 advantage. USC Aiken maintained a 38-36 lead heading into the second half.
With the score 41-39 in favor of USC Aiken, Brandt's team pushed the margin to eight as Kassy Johannsen and Reese went to work. Brandt's three-pointer made it 48-40.
Although USC Aiken saw its lead trimmed to just one at 51-50, Ball hit a three-pointer for a four-point cushion. Reese followed it up with a jumper and a 56-50 advantage with 9:03 to play. Reese and Gilreath canned back-to-back three-pointers and Kate Duff's lay-up completed the 13-0 run.
Brandt's team never looked back and closed out the contest in fine fashion.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., when they play at GRU Augusta.
