AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team rattled off a 9-0 victory over visiting Benedict Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-4 on the young season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team was challenged in only one doubles match. Playing at the No. 1 spot, Mathias Degardin and Jaime Gusano bested the opposition 9-7. Second-seeded Ettore Damiani and Clement Raymond notched an 8-1 win while Alejandro Andino and Andy Quirk made quick work of their competition, winning 8-0.
In singles action, Damiani garnered a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position. Julien Tan played the No. 2 slot and boasted a 6-1, 6-0 win. Quirk completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory as the No. 3 seed.
Fourth-seeded Degardin won a hard-fought 6-4 first set before tallying a 6-1 win in the final frame. Raymond, playing at the No. 5 spot, registered a 6-0, 6-1 win. Andino completed the shutout by posting a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position.
The Pacers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 28 when they play Flagler in Savannah, Ga. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
