COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 48 University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team lost a 9-0 decision at No. 8 Columbus State Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 4-2 on the young season and 2-1 against conference competition. The Cougars are 4-0 overall, including a 3-0 mark against league foes.
USC Aiken dropped the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-1 count, but also lost the No. 2 and No. 3 matches by default.
At the No. 1 position in singles action, Nadine Tusiama played a hard-fought three-set affair before coming up just short against No. 12 Beatriz Leon. Tusiama won the first set 7-5 before falling 6-1, 10-5.
Fourth-seeded Kayla Calvert played an outstanding match against her opposition, but came up just short in the 6-4, 6-4 defeat. Oliver Veskovac, playing at the No. 5 position, pushed her opponent to extra points before losing 7-6, 6-2.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., when they host Belmont Abbey in a non-conference contest.
