HARTSVILLE, S.C. – After three tough losses to start the season, the University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win at Coker Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-3 on the young season.
USC Aiken led 3-0 after doubles action and cruised to the overall victory, winning five singles matches.
Alejandro Andino and Julien Tan teamed up for an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot. Ettore Damiani and Clement Raymond needed extra time, but pulled off a 9-7 win at the No. 2 slot. The tandem of Andy Quirk and Mathias Degardin took home an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
It was a hard-fought contest, but Damiani earned a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win at the top singles spot for head coach Steve Dahm's team. Quirk tallied a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Degardin picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position while Andino went 2-0 by coasting to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 slot. Jaime Gusano posted a 6-3, 7-6 victory at the No. 6 spot to close out the scoring.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they travel to Georgia Southwestern for a 2:30 p.m., contest.
