Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team posted a 90-64 victory over Piedmont International Thursday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 2-4 on the season.
Gavin Stephenson led the way with a double-double performance of 13 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. He was uncanny from the floor, netting five-of-seven shots. Stephenson also made all three free throw attempts, dished out three assists and registered a pair of steals without committing a turnover.
Keith Belfield led everyone with a game-best 20 points. Albert Miller III totaled 13 points off the bench while Hendrix Emu contributed 12 points and eight boards. Jevon Patton reached double figures by totaling 11 points while contributing four assists and a pair of steals.
Kyle Buffkin totaled seven points and six rebounds while Glen Campbell totaled seven points and four boards. Jordan Foster chipped in five points and three rebounds.
For the game, head coach Mark Vanderslice's team connected on 36-of-72 shots from the floor (50 percent) and 13-of-18 from the charity stripe (72.2 percent).
USC Aiken held a 44-26 advantage on the boards and turned 19 turnovers into 28 points. The Pacers outscored the visitors 56-16 in the paint and led by as many as 29 points in the contest.
After Piedmont International scored the first two points of the night, Vanderslice's squad rattled off the next 11 points to take control of the game. Belfield accounted for seven of the markers during the spurt as Patton and Jordan Foster each connected for a pair of points.
During another run in the opening half, Miller scored seven straight points, pushing a 21-13 lead to 28-17 with 9:00 to play. Campbell's twisting lay-up pushed the home team to a 12-point advantage. He promptly extended it to 15 when he buried a three-ball with 6:15 to play in the first off a pass from David Belfield.
Hendrix Emu scored the final four points of the opening stanza for a 46-32 halftime advantage.
USC Aiken was in total control of the second half en route to the victory.
