The No. 3 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team advanced to match play at the NCAA Championship while Brandon Robinson-Thompson picked up his second straight All-America honor.
CONOVER, N.C. – The No. 3 University of South Carolina Aiken golf team wrapped up stroke play at the NCAA Division II Golf Championship with a sixth-place effort and now the team advances to match play, which begins tomorrow.
The Pacers concluded the final day of stroke play with a 16-over par, 300. The squad posted scores of 284-283-300, finishing the first three rounds with a 15-over par, 867.
Brandon Robinson-Thompson led head coach Michael Carlisle's team with a final-round tally of two-over par, 73. For the tournament, he posted a one-under par, 212, allowing him to tie for 10th. Robinson-Thompson's lone birdie of the day came on the par-five, 573-yard No. 14.
Hubert Tisserand completed the first three rounds with a four-over par, 217. He posted a five-over par, 76, on the final day of stroke play. Tisserand wrapped up the round with a solid effort, registering a par on each of the final four holes. He tied for 21st.
Axel Ostensson notched a four-over par, 75, on the final day of competition. For the tournament, Ostensson garnered a seven-over par, 220. After playing the first four holes at five-over par today, he bounced back, completing the round with a one-under par score from that point forward. Ostensson, along with Johnson Holliday, tied for 39th.
Holliday tallied a final-round score of six-over par, 77. For the tournament, he shot a seven-over par, 220. After opening Wednesday with a four-over par score through the first four holes, Holliday bounced back by shooting just two-over par after the turn.
Ward tied for 77th after shooting a 15-over par, 228, for the tournament. He shot a third-round total of five-over par, 76. Ward recorded two birdies on the day, including one on the final hole before match play begins tomorrow.
The Pacers will take on Central Missouri in the quarterfinals. Robinson-Thompson is the first to tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. The rest of the team follows in 10-minute intervals. Robinson-Thompson is followed by Holliday, Tisserand, Ostensson and Ward.
On May 20, Robinson-Thompson picked up the honor of being a first-team All-American.
NORMAN, Okla. – University of South Carolina Aiken golf standout Brandon Robinson-Thompson has been named a Division II PING first-team All-American, as announced at the conclusion of stroke play Wednesday evening.
Robinson-Thompson is one of nine student-athletes on the team. He completed stroke play with a 10th-place effort. Robinson-Thompson was recently named the PBC Golfer of the Year.
A native of Totland Bay, England, Robinson-Thompson won the Saint Leo Invitational and had three top-10 finishes this season. He registered an eighth-place effort at the Furman Invitaitonal and tied for 10th at the Division I INational Championship. For the season, Robinson-Thompson totaled a 922-225 win-loss record.
