Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Flagler in the Peach Belt Conference Championship.
The Pacers are now 27-5 on the season.
Leading the way for head coach Glenn Cox's team was Aly Johnson's team-high nine kills. Taylor Stratton added seven while Ashley Diedrich and Julia Forster added five apiece. Ashley Lind had four while Emily Teelon dropped in two. Alicia Hines and Katie Toman registered one each.
Teelon led the team with 26 assists. Defensively, Toman led the way with 14 digs. Hotson, Danielle Mercer and Stratton had seven digs apiece.
Lind registered a team-high three blocks.
Flagler jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening stanza and held off the Pacers in the first few moments of the match. USC Aiken made it 5-4 on an attack error by Sara Davis. The teams traded the next four points as Cox's team made it 7-6 on a kill by Hines. However, the Saints scored the next three points for a 10-6 margin. USC Aiken pulled within two at 10-8, but that was as close as the team would get the rest of the way as the visitors won 25-14.
In the second stanza, the teams were deadlocked at 10-10. USC Aiken took a 12-11 lead on a service error by the Saints. The squads traded points back-and-forth, with the Pacers snagging a 16-15 margin on a kill from Lind. USC Aiken saw its lead slip away as a 5-0 run by Flagler pushed the score to 21-17 and the Saints went on to win 25-20.
USC Aiken trailed 5-0 in what turned out to be the final set of the match, but rallied back to tie at at 6-6 on a block by Diedrich and Lind. However, the visitors managed to keep the slight advantage until the latter part of the set. Tied at 24, Flagler escaped with the final two points and the match.
The Pacers hit .000 in the first game but posted a .229 attack percentage in the second set. The squad hit .041 in the final set for an attack percentage of .083 for the contest.
Diedrich and Teelon were named to the all-tournament team.
