University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout Katie Toman has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for her efforts in the month of October.
Toman, a native of Keenesburg, Colo., guided the Pacers to a 14-1 mark during the month, including a 10-1 ledger against league foes.
Toman has been named the PBC Defensive Specialist of the Week and has also been named the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week during the month.
For the 15 matches, she tallied a team-high 311 digs for 5.76 digs per set and added 13 aces. During the month, she tied the school record for digs in a three-set match in the win over Lander with 26. Toman also posted the sixth-best mark in a three-set match with 23 digs against Francis Marion.
Toman established the eighth-best mark in school history for digs in a four-set match with 28 in the win over UNC Pembroke.
She recorded a career-high and school-record setting 45 digs in the five-set match against Montevallo on Oct. 31.
Toman is third in the league in digs per set with 4.71 and fourth in the league with 410 total digs for the season.
The USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2015-16 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
