Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-2 match at Flagler Friday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers saw their 15-match winning streak come to an end and now stand at 24-4 on the year, including a 13-4 mark against league foes.
USC Aiken was led by Ashley Diedrich's 21 kills. She added 16 digs for a double-double performance. Taylor Stratton added 17 kills while Alicia Hines hit .478 while slamming home 12 kills against one error while hitting .478. Julia Forster tallied nine kills while Ashley Lind and Aly Johnson added six and five, respectively.
Emily Teelon dished out a match-best 61 assists. Defensively, Katie Toman led the way with a match-best 18 digs. Shawn Hotson tallied 12 while Monica Cardona added nine.
At the net, Johnson stuffed a match-high five shots. Diedrich added three blocks while Lind, Stratton and Teelon added two blocks apiece.
After dropping the first set, head coach Glenn Cox's team bounced back in the second stanza. The team jumped out to an 8-4 lead after Teelon, Hines, Forster and Diedrich posted back-to-back-to-back-to-back kills. The squad extended the lead to six at 17-11 on a service error. Teelon notched an ace and Stratton slammed the door on the Saints in the 25-18 victory.
USC Aiken lost the third set 25-21, but the Pacers took out their frustration on Flagler in the fourth set. The team jumped out to a 12-3 margin and never looked back. Tied at 3-3, Cardona served up an ace. Lind slammed home a kill and Diedrich added a point after a pair of errors by the Saints for an 8-3 lead. Cardona added an ace prior to back-to-back blocks. Lind's kill pushed the margin to 12-3. Although the home team pulled within seven, Cox's group was not threatened in the 25-15 victory.
In the fifth set, the teams traded points much of the way. Trailing 6-5, Stratton notched back-to-back kills. A kill by Hines made it 8-6. The Pacers kept the lead at two. With the score at 11-9, the Saints battled back to tie the match. USC Aiken held a 14-13 lead, but the home team managed to score the last three points for the 16-14 victory in the fifth set.
