Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory at Columbus State Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers improve to 10-3 overall, including a 3-3 mark against league competition.
Head coach Glenn Cox's team collectively hit .309, hammering home 39 kills against nine errors on 97 attacks. The squad forced the home team into a .112 attack percentage while committing 18 attack errors.
Ashley Diedrich led everyone with 14 kills. She posted a .367 attack percentage. Alicia Hines recorded seven kills against one error en route to a .429 attack percentage. Julia Forster and Taylor Stratton each added five kills while Aly Johnson and Emily Teelon each accounted for four kills.
Teelon led everyone with 28 assists in the contest.
Monica Cardona accounted for a match-best 18 digs while Katie Toman contributed 10. Cardona sliced the defense for a match-high three aces.
USC Aiken found itself trailing 3-0 in the opening frame before an error got the team on the board. Down 8-4, Forster's kill got things going for the Pacers. Hines registered a kill before Diedrich sized up the defense and garnered an ace. Teelon's kill tied the set and the Pacers took their first lead when Hines and Teelon combined for a block.
Tied at 9-9, USC Aiken embarked on an 11-4 spurt as the team cruised to the 25-21 win. Although the Cougars made it interesting by cutting the score to 23-20, Stratton's kill made it 24-20. After a kill by the home team, a service error gave the victory to the Pacers.
CSU led 3-2 in the second set, but Johnson found the court, tying the contest. An error by the Cougars gave USC Aiken the lead for good. Diedrich, Forster and Hines went back-to-back-to-back for a 7-3 advantage.
Leading 15-8, Teelon scored off a pass from Cardona. That started a 4-1 spurt by Cox's team. During the run, Diedrich had three kills. The squad closed out the set ono a kill by Hines off a pass from Lauren Howard.
The third set was tied at 3-3 before Diedrich's attack gave the visitors the lead for good. After a miscue by the Cougars, Teelon posted a kill. A moment later, Forster had a kill. Danielle Mercer served up an ace prior to Hines garnering one of her kills for the day.
Leading 23-18, Diedrich posted a kill for a six-point edge. Toman served for the match and Forster ended up wrapping up the match with a kill in the 25-18 victory.
