Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team recorded a 3-1 victory over UNC Pembroke Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 21-3 on the season, including a 10-3 mark against league foes.
Ashley Diedrich led the way with a match-best 13 kills. Julia Forster and Taylor Stratton added nine apiece while Aly Johnson accounted for seven. Emily Teelon had five while Alicia Hines and Jennifer Law tallied three each. Shawn Hotson and Ashley Lind posted a pair of kills apiece while Okwunne Ogbogu chipped in one.
Teelon recorded a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Lauren Howard dished out nine assists while Katie Toman accounted for seven.
On the back row, Toman led everyone with 28 digs, which is tied for eighth most in a four-set match in school history. Monica Cardona and Hotson tallied 14 apiece while Forster had seven. Chelsey Watts registered a pair of digs and an assist in the contest.
Collectively, the team had 96 digs, which is the eighth most in school history for a four-set affair.
At the net, Diedrich and Johnson each posted a match-high three blocks.
USC Aiken trailed 7-0 in the first set before Teelon's kill put the squad on the board. The Pacers embarked on a 13-3 run, taking a 13-10 lead when Lind smashed a pass from Howard. Head coach Glenn Cox's team cruised to the 25-18 victory when Law found the court off a pass from Teelon.
The Braves took an early lead in the second frame, but once again USC Aiken hit its stride after reaching double figures. Leading 15-12, the team reeled off five straight points, starting with a service error by the visitors. Forster had a kill in the run, but the rest came off of miscues by UNC Pembroke.
With the score at 20-15, USC Aiken closed out the set with a 5-0 run for the 25-15 victory.
After dropping the third set 25-23, Cox's team left little doubt in what turned out to be the final frame. With the score at 14-7, the Pacers embarked on a 7-0 spurt that included kills from Hotson, Johnson, Stratton and Diedrich. USC Aiken rattled off the final points in the 25-14 win.
