Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team overcame a slow start to post a 3-1 victory at Georgia College Friday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are 19-3 on the season, including an 8-3 mark against league foes.
Leading the way for head coach Glenn Cox was Taylor Stratton, who slammed home a team-best 14 kills. Ashley Diedrich added 12 kills while Julia Forster notched 11 against just one miscue in the victory. Emily Teelon hit .600, recording six kills in 10 attempts. Aly Johnson (6), Ashley Lind (5), Alicia Hines (4) and Jennifer Law (1) all picked up kills in the victory.
Teelon distributed 27 assists to go along with eight digs while Lauren Howard contributed 13 assists and seven digs. Chelsey Watts dished out seven assists while Katie Toman contributed five.
Toman led everyone with 27 digs while Monica Cardona chipped in nine. Forster accounted for seven digs and three blocks.
At the net, USC Aiken had two solo blocks and 16 block assists. Hines led everyone with five total blocks while Diedrich accounted for four. Johnson and Stratton were each in on a pair of blocks while Law and Lind were in on a block.
After dropping the first set, head coach Glenn Cox's team led from the outset of the second frame. Diedrich opened the set with a kill and Johnson and Forster promptly followed her lead. Although Georgia College tied the set at 16, Johnson and Stratton gave the team the lead when they blocked Caroline Long. Tied at 18, Diedrich's kill sparked the Pacers to the 25-21 win, which Stratton clinched off a pass from Howard.
In the third frame, Forster's kill started a 5-0 spurt as the squad started a block party, in part due to Hines' hands. Hines accounted for a pair of block assists in the spurt. Leading 15-13, an error by the home squad gave the ball back to the Pacers. USC Aiken reeled off seven straight points as Teelon had a pair of kills in the run. Stratton's kill ended the set with the 25-18 victory.
USC Aiken would not let up, racing out to a 12-4 lead in what turned out to be the final set. During a 4-0 run in the early going of the frame, Johnson and Forster registered kills while the Bobcats had a pair of errors.
USC Aiken stretched its lead to 10 at 17-7 when Forster and Law stuffed a shot. Although the home team tried to slice the deficit, Cox's team held the Bobcats at an arm's length and finished the team off with a kill by Stratton.
