Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team registered an 89-73 victory over visiting Flagler Monday evening.
The Pacers are now 7-6 overall, including a 2-2 effort against league foes.
André Anthony led the way with a team-high 17 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the floor. He contributed five boards and four assists as well. Hendrix Emu came off the bench to net a career-high 16 points and grab six boards. Albert Miller III and Caleb Stewart accounted for 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Dominic Early chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.
USC Aiken registered 45 points off the bench while limiting the visitors to just 15. The squad buried 51.7 percent from the floor (31-of-60) while draining 14-of-24 from downtown (58.3 percent).
The Pacers' largest lead of the night was with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game at 20 points.
After trailing by three just 1:24 into the game, head coach Vince Alexander's team embarked on a 15-2 run, culminating on Stewart's 3-point basket, making it 16-6 at the 14:25 mark. During the spurt, Emu, Miller III and Anthony also canned deep 3-point baskets.
Flagler pulled within three at 25-22, but Early answered with a jumper. Miller, Anthony and Miller drained back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers for a 36-24 advantage and the squad cruised to a 12-point halftime advantage.
USC Aiken opened the second half on a 5-2 run thanks to the hot shooting by Tyreece Brice and Anthony. The Pacers slowly widened the gap to 17 points when Stewart stepped back and hit a 3-pointer from the wing. Jordan Foster's 3-pointer with 10:30 to play pushed the margin to 19 and after a pair of free throws by the Saints, Early canned another 3-pointer for the 20-point advantage.
Flagler pulled within 14 with 1:24 to play, but David Belfield drove the offensive end of the court, sliced through a pair of defenders and dropped in a basket. USC Aiken hit a pair of easy inside shots in the final 39 seconds for the final 16-point margin.
For the game, USC Aiken committed just 12 turnovers while forcing 15. The team netted 16 points off the Saints' miscues. The squad also netted 32 points in the paint and held a 19-17 edge in fast-break points.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at UNC Pembroke. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
