Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 14 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team used two huge innings to break open a close game with a 15-5 victory over Lincoln Memorial.
The Pacers are now 2-0 on the season.
In an evenly spread out offensive attack, head coach Kenny Thomas' team produced eight players that registered multiple hits, including four that had at least three hits in the win.
USC Aiken totaled 15 runs on 23 hits while LMU totaled five runs on 10 hits in the contest.
Leading the way for the Pacers was Matt Bosse, who drove in a game-high three runs. Tyler Moore, Ty Barkell and Chaz Pal all had two RBI each.
Pal led everyone with a four-hit game while Sean Miller, Moore and Barkell all had three hits apiece. Kody Belcher, TJ Costen, Bosse and Zach Moon each registered two hits. Nile Goings and Cory Bryant had hits in their only plate appearances.
On the mound, Erik Davis pitched five innings and gave up just two runs on five hits, but did not factor in the decision. Ben Black came in and worked three innings. He struck out two and give up three runs on five hits, but earned the victory. Hunter Hubbard worked a scoreless ninth for the Pacers.
In the third inning, Moore got things going with a single to left, plating Miller and Belcher. Both had reached on infield singles to the shortstop.
USC Aiken maintained the lead until the fifth as the Railsplitters put together a pair of runs, tying the contest. The visitors took the lead in the seventh with two more runs, but Thomas' squad broke open the game in the bottom half of the frame.
Belcher led off with a single and moved to second on Miller's bunt single. Moore singled to left, loading the bases. Barkell doubled to left field, scoring two. After a walk to TJ Costen, Bossed doubled home two more for a lead the team would not relinquish.
Pal singled to left, scoring Bosse. After stealing third, Pal managed to score on Zach Moon's double. As the Pacers batted around, Moon eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 9-4 advantage.
LMU scored a run in the eighth, but USC Aiken tacked on six runs in the bottom of the stanza, ensuring that the visitors would not make the game close.
After a lead-off triple by Barkell, Costen singled him home. Bosse tripled home Costen and scored on Pal's single to right. Bryant singled home Pal and Nile Goings ended the big inning with a two-RBI single to center field.
The Pacers return to action Sunday at 1 p.m., in the final game of the series against the Railsplitters.
