ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory at Clark Atlanta Friday afternoon in the season-opening match.
The Pacers are now 1-0 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team dropped the No. 1 doubles match by a 9-8 count, but the squad had no issues in the other eight matches en route to the victory.
At No. 2 doubles, Sarah Bernos and Kayla Calvert breezed through the contest, winning 8-1. The duo of Oliver Veskovac and and Marie Aimée Habiyaremye notched an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 doubles slot.
Nadine Tusiama earned a straight-set victory at the No. 1 singles position while Bernos posted a three-set victory in the No. 2 spot. She won the first set 6-2, but fell 6-4 in the second stanza. Bernos bounced back for a 10-3 victory.
Shauna Williams posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot while Veskovac went 2-0 on the day with her 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 position.
Calvert improved to 2-0 in her young career by earning a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 slot. Habiyaremye continued her solid debut by posting a straight-set victory in the No. 6 position.
The Pacers return to action Saturday, Feb. 7, when they host North Georgia at 2:30 p.m.
