Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a 73-59 decision at Montevallo Monday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 9-9 on the season, including a 4-5 mark against conference foes. The Falcons stand at 12-7 overall and 8-1 against league competition.
André Anthony and Tyreece Brice were the only two USC Aiken student-athletes to reach double figures as they posted 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss. Dominic Early narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds while Hendrix Emu accounted for eight points.
Caleb Stewart notched six points while Arbry Butler and Albert Miller III each chipped in five points.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 20-of-57 shots from the floor (35.1 percent), but managed to bury 42.9 percent of its three-point attempts (nine-of-21). The team also connected on 10-of-14 foul shots (71.4 percent).
The Pacers accounted for nine points off Montevallo's 10 turnovers while limiting the home squad to six points off 12 turnovers. Head coach Vince Alexander's team also led the way with 21 bench points to 16 by the Falcons.
USC Aiken fell behind 8-0 just 60 seconds into the game, but managed to tally eight of the next 12 points to get back into the contest. During the 8-4 run, Early slammed home a thunderous dunk while Brice and Early each hit three-point baskets.
Trailing 16-10, Butler made a free throw prior to Miller III and Stewart drilling back-to-back three-point shots for a 17-16 advantage with 11:59 to play in the half. However, it marked the only time in the game that the Pacers would have the lead. The Falcons embarked on a 15-0 spurt that spanned nearly eight minutes for a 31-17 lead. USC Aiken managed to outscore the home team 7-4 to close the half, making it a 35-24 score at intermission.
A 9-4 start to the second half by the Pacers brought the visitors within five when Anthony netted a three-point shot off a pass from Gavin Stephenson with just 15:46 to play.
Montevallo managed to push the margin back to double digits and USC Aiken was unable to get any closer in the loss.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Francis Marion on Homecoming. The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
