AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken cross country team had a solid showing Saturday morning as the team earned a 10th-place finish at the Jaguar Invitational after posting a total score of 285.
"It was great to run our first 6k of the season," head coach Kara Kreutzer said. "It looks like most of our returners are running close to the 6k times from the end of last season. I believe if we can keep up this trend, the team can run some fast times when we return to this course for the Peach Belt Conference Championship."
Senior Alexis Harvin led the team for the second consecutive race after crossing the line in 26:05.29. The time was good enough for 59th place and she averaged a 6:59.9 mile for the 6k event.
Just behind her was fellow senior Kayla Millholland, who crossed the finish line in a solid 26:35.09. Her 7:07.2 average mile time was good enough for 64th place.
Brittany May was the third USC Aiken student-athlete that finished. She posted a time of 28:33.42. May's time earned her a 71st-place finish.
Abigail Sorrenson and Kyah Owusu followed one another with Sorrenson posting a time of 30:24.51. Less than six seconds later Owusu finished the difficult course. Sorrenson took 84th place while Owusu was 85th.
Colleen Cirillo's mark of 30:42.26 allowed her to place 87th. Samantha Lisek garnered a time of 31:31.17 while finishing 94th in the 108-person field.
Montevallo won the meet while North Georgia and Columbus State rounded out the top three.
The Pacers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they make their third trip to the Peach State in 2014 as they compete at the North Georgia Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 8:15 a.m.
