Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team earned a draw against Mount Olive Saturday evening in front of a sizable crowd despite bad weather conditions.
The Pacers are now 2-1-1 on the young season.
"This is a game we thought we could win," head coach Ike Ofoje said. "We created several chances but were unable to finish. We have been playing well and we need to continue to improve in order to prepare ourselves for the Peach Belt Conference portion of the schedule."
In just the third minute of action, Noel Mais found Nathan Shanko with a well-played pass. Shanko one-timed it into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
However, the Trojans' Trevor Knight would knot the score just before intermission off a pass from Macon Watkins, making it 1-1.
Despite solid opportunities in the second half, Ofoje's team was unable to net the game-winning goal. The squad had one last chance near the end of regulation, but was turned away.
Just prior to the start of overtime, lightning halted the contest. After both coaches met, a decision to call the contest instead of waiting for a heavy storm to pass was made.
USC Aiken boasted a 13-9 shots advantage over the visitors. The Pacers also maintained an 8-4 lead in corner kicks.
Between the pipes, Joshua Poissant notched five saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Mais and Jan Wester led USC Aiken with three shots apiece while Mais totaled two shots on frame.
The Pacers return to action Monday when they host Queens at 7:45 p.m.
