SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 34 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a 5-0 decision to No. 5 Armstrong Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Pacers' season ends with an 11-10 mark.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team put together a strong performance, but the Pirates were able to come away with the win.
In doubles action, Alejandro Andino and Patrick Stiebinger lost an 8-3 decision against the No. 7 tandem in Division II at the top spot. Third-seeded Andy Quirk and Ronan Reberac lost by the same score. At the No. 2 position, Ettore Damiani and Lucas Gobbi lost an 8-1 decision.
In singles play, Andino dropped the No. 3 spot to Nhis counterpart, who was ranked No. 29 nationally, by a 6-0, 6-0 count. Gobbi, playing at the No. 4 slot, lost to No. 21 Pablo Gor by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
USC Aiken was trailing in three of the four unfinished matches.
The match marked the last collegiate contest for Gobbi and Stiebinger, who are both seniors.
