AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 2 University of
South Carolina Aiken men's golf team is set for the upcoming
NCAA Championship, which is slated to run May 19-23, in Allendale,
Mich., at The Meadows Golf Course.
The Pacers are making their 18th appearance in the NCAA
Division II Men's Golf Championship. Admission is free for
all five days of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf
Championship.
USC Aiken advanced to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf
Championship by finishing third as a team at the 2014 NCAA Division
II South/Southeast Regional. The squad registered an 876 over the
three-day event, finishing eight strokes behind Barry.
At the tournament, Brandon Robinson-Thompson was the Pacers'
top finisher, tying for third with a 212. Kyle Godsman notched a
ninth-place effort with a 214.
After the conclusion of the 54 holes of stroke play, an individual
champion will be declared.
The top eight teams will then be put into brackets based on the
54-hole scores. The final eight will then move on to match
play. This will be the third year that match play will be
utilized to determine the national champion.
The pairings for the quarterfinals will be seed No. 1 against
seed No. 8, seed No. 2 against seed No. 7, seed No. 3 against seed
No. 6 and seed No. 4 against seed No. 5.
Each team match will consist of five points with one point being
awarded for each individual match.
Winning teams will advance to the semifinals and subsequently
the finals. Each individual match will be played to its completion
and the first team to win three points within the team match will
advance, or in the case of the final match be declared the national
champion.
In addition to Godsman and Robinson-Thompson, head coach Michael
Carlisle's team at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf
Championship, the Pacers will be represented by Andrew Ward, Gaines
Milliner and Hayden Letien.
The five also helped USC Aiken claim the Peach Belt Conference
Championship in April.
Carlisle's team is looking for its fourth team national
championship and third individual title. The squad's two
individual titles came from Dane Burkhart and Jeff Goff while the
team titles came via a three-peat from 2004-06.
