AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 2 University of
South Carolina Aiken men's golf team earned a spot in the
upcoming 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.
The Pacers will travel to Savannah, Ga., to compete in the NCAA
South/Southeast Regional at the Savannah Quarters Country Club May
5-7, 2014. The event is hosted by the Armstrong Pirates, who earned
an at-large bid.
The regional is comprised of 10 teams from the South Region and 10
from the Southeast Region and they are vying for seven spots into
the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. It is the
second time that Armstrong has hosted the regional, with the first
coming in 2007.
USC Aiken is the No. 1 seed from the Southeast Region and is
joined in the field by No. 7 Armstrong, No. 14 Columbus State, No.
15 Flagler, No. 17 Georgia College and Clayton State, all of which
represent the PBC. Carson-Newman and Erskine earned automatic bids
while Queens and Limestone garnered at-large bids.
The South Region features defending NCAA Division II National
Champion Barry, No. 3 Lynn, No. 6 Nova Southeastern, No. 10 West
Florida, No. 11 North Alabama, No. 16 Florida Tech, No. 19 Florida
Southern and No. 24 St. Leo. Rollins and Delta State complete the
field.
There are 13 nationally-ranked teams out of the 20 team-field in
the NCAA South/Southeast Regional.
Play begins May 5, with one round of action at the Savannah
Quarters Country Club with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Play
continues with a single round of action on May 6 with the final
round of the regional slated for Wednesda7, May 7.
The Pacers are coming off their second consecutive Peach Belt
Conference Championship while Brandon Robinson-Thompson won the
individual championship.
