USC Aiken improves to 17-4 on the season.
In the first game of the day, head coach Jerry Snyder's team put two runs on the board in the top of the first and another in the second en route to the 3-2 win. It was more than enough as India Kornegay gave up just four hits. Kornegay struck out a school-record 19 batters in the victory. She also surpassed the 900-strikeout mark in her career (903).
Kaitlyn White led off the inning with a double to center and moved to third on Sarah Montei's single. Montei swiped second. Magan Thrower reached on a fielding error, giving the Pacers a 1-0 lead while putting the runners on the corner. With one down, Montei stole home for a 2-0 advantage.
In the second inning, White singled to left, scoring Ashley Metts, who had reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a passed ball. Brittney Williamson's infield grounder allowed Metts to trickle over to third before she was plated by White.
West Georgia pulled within one as the team had two solo homers in the game, but Kornegay struck out the side in the seventh, securing the victory for the Pacers.
For the game, White had two of the team's five hits, including one of the two extra-base hits.
In the second game, USC Aiken plated two runs in the first inning thanks in part to an error. White singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two down, Victoria Burkett walked. A dropped fly ball allowed White and Burkett to score.
The home team tied it in the second, but Taylor Morgan stayed strong, not allowing a run the rest of the way.
USC Aiken took control of the game in the sixth stanza with three runs.
Burkett led off the inning with a single and stole second. With two down, rookie Madison Labrador doubled home both runners and she came across home when Brittney Williamson singled up the middle.
Snyder's team left no doubt by plating three runs in the seventh off a homer to right field off the bat of Andrea Daring for the 8-2 margin.
For the second game, White went four-for-five while Metts was three-for-four.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Wingate for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
