AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 13 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team dominated Georgia Southwestern with a 7-2 win in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team is now 7-1 overall for the year and 1-0 in PBC competition.
The Pacers took control early on, winning all three matches in doubles play. The duo of Alejandro Andino and Patrick Stiebinger grabbed an 8-6 victory at the top position. Ettore Damiani and Lucas Gobbi came out on top in the No. 2 spot with an 8-3 win over the Hurricanes players while Andy Quirk and Ronan Reberac worked together at the No. 3 slot for an 8-4 victory.
In singles action, USC Aiken easily took the prize in the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 positions, respectively, while dropping the No. 2 and 3 spots.
Damiani nearly swept the lead position, scoring wins by a 6-0 and 6-2 count in the first and second sets, respectively.
Gobbi brought the Pacers back on track with a triumph in the No. 3 slot, winning 6-3 and 6-2. Stiebinger and Felix Zahn followed his lead, bring home victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively. Stiebinger had set scores of 6-4 and 6-2 while Zahn won 6-1 and 6-2.
USC Aiken returns to action Sunday, March 9, when the team hosts Columbus St. at 1 p.m.
