Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 10 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team recorded a 17-0 victory over visiting Paine Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 12-4 overall for the season.
After a scoreless first frame, head coach Kenny Thomas' team pounded out five runs in the second frame. Matt Bosse led off with a single to left and moved to second on Ryan Metzler's base knock. Ben Donath belted a double to center, scoring two. Donath eventually came in on a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 margin.
Grayson Smith stole second after a single. He came around to score on Tyler Moore's single, which moved Kody Belcher to third. Belcher stole home for a 5-0 advantage.
The Pacers tacked on two runs in the third stanza when Bosse and Metzler hit back-to-back solo homers.
USC Aiken plated seven runs in the fifth as Bosse drove in two on a double to right. Grayson Smith singled home Bosse. Later in the frame, Tyler Moore and T.J. Costen each singled home runs while Barkell's walk scored another run.
In the fifth inning, Moore earned another RBI with a base knock to center field.
The Pacers garnered two runs in the sixth. Randy Luckett reached on a fielding error and was able to trot home when Ben Donath blasted a two-run shot for a 17-0 lead.
Donath led the team with four RBI while Bosse added three. Moore, Metzler and Miller had two apiece.
Adrian Rivero hurled three innings and struck out three en route to earning the victory. Jake Padgett, Caleb Smith, Randy Sipp, Kevin Gifford, Roberto Hernandez, Jr., and James Lynch all worked one inning apiece for the Pacers.
Combined, USC Aiken gave up just five hits.
The Pacers return to action Friday at 4 p.m., when they host Armstrong in the first game of a three-game series.
