AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a 9-0 contest to No. 7 Lander Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 8-5 on the season.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team pushed the visiting Bearcats to the limit in doubles action and could have very easily been up 2-1 instead of down 3-0.
Top-seeded Alejandro Andino and Patrick Stiebinger lost a hard fought 9-8 decision while third-seeded Andy Quirk and Ronan Reberac lost an 8-6 contest.
In singles action, Andino was the lone USC Aiken student-athlete to force a third set after he claimed a set two win by a 6-3 score at the No. 2 position. However, Quirk went into extra points in both sets at No. 3, but lost 7-5, 7-5.
Stiebinger and Lucas Gobbi each forced extra points in the first set of their respective matches.
The Pacers will try and get back on track Apr. 1 at Queens. The match begins at 1 p.m.
