AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 13 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team earned a hard fought 5-4 victory over Coker Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 6-1 overall for the year.
USC Aiken jumped out to a 3-0 lead by snagging all the three wins in doubles action. The tandem of Alejandro Andino and Patrick Stiebinger notched an 8-6 victory at the top position. Ettore Damiani and Lucas Gobbi teamed up for an 8-4 win over their counterparts while Felix Zahn and Andy Quirk partnered up for an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 slot.
In singles action, head coach Steve Dahm's team dropped the top three spots and the No. 5 position. However, the team had chances as two of the losses were in three sets.
USC Aiken managed to pick up the victory by taking home wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 spots.
Gobbi tallied a three-set come-from-behind win at the No. 4 slot. After falling 6-2 in the opener, he bounced back for wins in the final two stanzas by a 6-2, 6-4 count.
Zahn improved to 2-0 on the day by posting a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they host Mount Olive at 2 p.m.
