Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team jumped on top of Pain 6-0 and never looked back en route to the 13-5 victory Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 18-7 on the season.
Leading the way for head coach Kenny Thomas' team was Matt Bosse, who pounded out a pair of hits while driving in three runs. T.J. Costen and Charles Padilla knocked in two runs apiece. Kody Belcher, Sean Miller, Corey Bryant, Ty Barkell, Ryan Metzler and Ben Donath all drove in one run.
Barkell, Bosse and Costen all notched round-trippers. Donath had a pair of doubles while Belcher, Bosse and Padilla all doubles.
Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, Miller walked and promptly came home when Costen blasted a homer. Barkell followed him up with a solo shot for a 3-1 advantage. After Bosse doubled and stole third, Metzler drove him in for the 4-1 lead.
Belcher drove in Durham in the second and eventually came around to score on Miller's sacrifice fly for a 6-1 margin.
Paine pulled within two at 6-4 in the fifth, but Thomas' squad responded with four runs in the sixth to secure the win.
After Barkell's sacrifice fly plated Miller, Bosse followed him up with a three-run shot. The Pacers tacked on three runs in the eighth, with the big hit coming off the bat of Padilla, who doubled to left center. His base hit plated Robby Assemany and Bryant.
Nick Yobbi worked two innings and struck out one in order to pick up the win. Adrian Rivero worked one inning as did Sam Daniel. Brandon Sharpe tossed 1.1 innings. Cole Lee, Hunter Hubbard and James Lynch all threw one inning apiece. Lee and Lynch struck out two batters apiece.
The Pacers return to action Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host North Georgia in a doubleheader.
