ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a pair of games at Flagler Sunday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference clash. The Pacers won the first game 3-0 before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.

Head coach Jerry Snyder's team is now 18-9 overall, including a 1-3 mark in league play.

In the first game, neither team could get much going for the first few frames. After India Kornegay allowed a one-hit single in the bottom of the first, she started to go through the order rather quickly, which allowed head coach Jerry Snyder's team time to get runs on the board.

The Pacers had two runners on in the third thanks to back-to-back singles by Makenzie Barbor and Brittney Williamson, but the squad was unable to push them across home plate.

However, USC Aiken got things going in the fifth frame. With one down, Barbor singled up the middle and scampered to third when Williamson doubled to right center. 

Kaitlyn White singled home Barbor as Williamson hustled to third for a 1-0 edge. White swiped second and Williamson trotted home on a throwing error by the catcher for a 2-0 advantage. Two batters later, Samantha Chubb belted a single into the gap in right center, scoring White for the 3-0 margin.

The runs were more than enough for Kornegay, who allowed just two base runners over the final three innings, securing the victory.

Barbor, White and Williamson had two hits apiece for USC Aiken. 

In the second game, USC Aiken fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first frame and could not recover despite a solid effort from the team.

The Pacers trailed 6-0 after the second inning, but rallied for two runs in the third behind a two-run shot from Chubb. However, it was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.

The Pacers return to action Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m., when they host Young Harris in a doubleheader.
