Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 10 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 10-2 victory over visiting Chowan Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 15-5 on the season.
With two down in the first, T.J. Costen belted a homer for a 1-0 advantage. After Ty Barkell walked, Matt Bosse launched a two-run round-tripper for a 3-0 lead.
The three runs were more than enough for the solid stable of pitchers that head coach Kenny Thomas used in the victory.
After Chowan trimmed the score to 3-1 in the fourth, USC Aiken produced six straight runs before the visitors would cross home plate again.
Ben Donath started the frame by getting hit from a pitch. He moved to second on a single by Randy Luckett. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Sean Miller's single scored Donath and Luckett came home on Kody Belcher's sacrifice fly.
USC Aiken made it 7-1 in the fifth. The team got its first run on Barkell's mammoth shot. Bosse reached on an error and eventually scored on Luckett's single. The team scratched a run in the sixth on Costen's sacrifice fly, which plated Tyler Moore, who had reached on a triple.
In the seventh, Miller's sacrifice fly allowed Corey Bryant to cross home. The final run of the night came when Costen lifted a pitch over the fence for a round-tripper in the eighth stanza.
For the game, Costen led the way with three RBI while Bosse and Miller had two RBI apiece. Luckett led everyone with three hits. Barkell and Costen each had two base knocks.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow at 6 p.m., when they host Chowan for the final game of the series.
