DUE WEST, S.C. – The No. 13 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team went on the road and picked up a hard fought 6-3 win at Erskine Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 4-1 on the young season with the victory.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team trailed 2-1 after doubles competition, but posted wins in five of the six singles matches to secure the team win.
USC Aiken picked up its lone victory at No. 2 doubles as Ettore Damiani and Lucas Gobbi bested their competition by an 8-2 count.
In singles work, the Pacers made sure to take the matches quickly and efficiently. Damiani rounded out his perfect day by posting a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1. Despite a loss at No. 2, Dahm's squad picked up the pace the rest of the way.
Alejandro Andino registered an amazing come-from-behind victory at the No. 3 position. After falling 7-6 in the first set, he posted wins in the final two stanzas by scores of 6-3 and 10-5.
Gobbi garnered a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 slot while Patrick Stiebinger blazed past his opponent at the No. 5 spot by a 6-1, 6-0 count.
Newcomer Felix Zahn earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at the No. 6 position to close out the victory.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Pfeiffer in a 2 p.m. match.
