AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South
Carolina Aiken softball standouts India Kornegay and Brielle
Jungblut were honored by the Peach Belt Conference office Tuesday
afternoon.
Kornegay was tabbed the PBC Pitcher of the Week while Jungblut
garnered PBC Freshman of the Week honors presented by
AstroTurf.
Kornegay went 4-0 last week in the circle, racking up 58
strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work. The senior had a perfect
game against Paine, striking out all 18 batters she faced in the
six-inning affair, the fifth-highest single-game strikeout total in
PBC history. Seventeen of the batters struck out swinging.
She reached that mark again the next day with 18 strikeouts
against Mount Olive. Kornegay tossed 5.2 innings of one-hit
ball against Barton, striking out seven.
For the week she allowed seven hits and six runs with nine walks
while holding batters to a .071 average. She leads the PBC in
wins, ERA and strikeouts and her 848 career strikeouts are
currently fifth on the PBC lists.
Jungblut began her collegiate career this week by getting five
hits in her first eight at-bats. She went 2-for-3 against
Paine to start a streak of four straight games with hits.
For the week the freshman hit .625 with a .667 on-base
percentage. Jungblut went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run
scored in a 3-0 win over Barton.
The Pacers return to action Sunday when they host King in a
doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
