MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team defeated No. 46 Clayton State by a 6-3 count Sunday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers move to 5-1 overall, including a 2-1 ledger in league play.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team posted a 2-1 lead through doubles play, including one victory by forfeit. USC Aiken snagged an 8-5 win at the No. 2 doubles spot as Nadine Tusiama and Franziska Regel won by an 8-5 score. Shauna Williams and Caitlyn Lawrence registered a victory via forfeit at No. 3. Top-seeded Margot Simon and Victoria Jasko dropped a hard fought 9-8 (9-7) match as the No. 1 seed.
In singles play, Lawrence gave the Pacers a quick 3-0 lead thanks to her win at No. 6 by forfeit.
Simon, playing at No. 1, bested her opponent 6-1, 7-6 while Tusiama continued her torrid start to the season by posting a 6-2, 6-4 victory as the No. 2 seed.
Playing the No. 3 position, Julie Arruda garnered a come-from-behind 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. USC Aiken lost the matches at No. 4 and No. 5 in straight sets.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they travel to Erskine in a regional battle. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
