USC Aiken Falls 5-4 At Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season Saturday, losing 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference match at Montevallo.

The Pacers are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 against PBC competition.

In doubles action, Margot Simon and Victoria Jasko remained unbeaten, downing their opposition by a 9-7 score in thrilling fashion at the No. 1 position. However, it was the only point head coach Steve Dahm's team could win in doubles play. Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams lost an 8-6 battle at No. 2 while Franziska Regel and Julie Arruda lost a 9-7 contest at No. 3.

The Pacers picked up wins at No. 2 singles as Tusiama continued her stellar season with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 win. Williams tallied a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 5 position while Jasko garnered her second win of the day with a resounding 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 6 slot.

USC Aiken lost two three-set matches in singles play as Arruda and Regel rebounded from first set losses to pick up the win in the second set, forcing the tiebreaker. However, neither was able to come away with the victory.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. when they face Clayton State in a PBC showdown.
