ANDERSON, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team, ranked No. 21 in the latest polls, garnered an 8-1 win at Anderson Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 3-1 on the young season.
USC Aiken piled up a 3-0 lead by winning all of the doubles matches. Patrick Stiebinger and Alejandro Andino posted an 8-5 victory at No. 1 while Ettore Damiani and Lucas Gobbi won at No. 2 by an 8-4 count. The Pacer claimed the 3-0 advantage when Andy Quirk and Ronan Reberac totaled an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team won five of the six singles matches. Damiani and Felix Zahn won by default at the No. 1 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
Quirk registered a three-set win at No. 2, winning the first set 6-4. He dropped the second set 3-6 before rebounding for a 6-4 win in the third frame.
Andino had a tough match, but came out on top with 7-6, 6-3 scores. Gobbi won in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Feb. 26, when they travel to Erskine for a 2:30 p.m. match.
