AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team notched an 8-1 victory over UNC Pembroke in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
The Pacers are now 3-0 overall, including a 1-0 mark against league foes.
Head coach Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 3-0 advantage by snagging all three doubles matches.
Margot Simon and Victoria Jasko teamed up for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot while Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams registered an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 position. Franziska Regel and Ella Rhodin paired up and won a thrilling 9-8 contest as the No. 3 squad.
In singles action, Simon made quick work of her opponent, winning by a 6-4, 6-2 count at the No. 1 slot. Tusiama needed an extra point to take the second set, winning 6-4, 7-6 for the victory at the No. 2 position.
At No. 3, Julie Arruda won the first set by a 6-2 margin. However, she fell by a 6-3 score in the second frame. Arruda fought back, winning the tiebreaker by a comfortable 10-4 margin.
Regel took home the win at the No. 4 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Williams dispatched her opponent by a 6-4, 6-2 score at the No. 5 position.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Anderson for a 1 p.m., start.
