PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Due
to the weather, the Peach Belt Conference Golf Championship was
reduced to one round and the No. 2 University of South Carolina
Aiken men's golf team notched a total of 291 en route to the
conference title while Brandon Robinson-Thompson clinched the
individual championship at the par-72, 7,057-yard Mountain View
Course at Callaway Gardens.
It marks the second straight team championship for head coach
Michael Carlisle's squad. The Pacers bested Georgia College by two
strokes and UNC Pembroke by four, taking home the championship. The
291 total was the same score USC Aiken in the final round of the
2013 PBC Championship.
Robinson-Thompson, a first-team all-conference selection,
registered a four-under par, 68, defeating Armstrong's Shad Tuten
by a mere stroke for the individual crown.
Second-team all-PBC honoree Hayden Letien finished in a tie for the
bronze after carding a 71. He amassed a one-under par score for the
18-hole tournament. Letien tied with the Bobcats' top finisher,
Nicolas Falkinhoff, and the Braves' best golfer of the tournament,
Michael Mullmann, for third.
Andrew Ward registered a three-over
par, 75, while tying for 17th place.
Second-team all-conference performer Kyle Godsman notched a five-over par, 77, en
route to a 28th-place finish. Gaines Milliner totaled a 45th-place effort with a seven-over par, 79.
The team victory marked the fourth team title by the Pacers this
season. The squad also won the Firestone Invitational, Wexford
Plantation Intercollegiate and the Bobcat Invitational.
The title is the 10th PBC
Championship in school history. The team claimed titles in 1995,
1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2013.
