Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team used a hot-shooting first half en route to a 62-51 victory over visiting Barton Saturday afternoon in a non-conference clash.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the young season.
Leading the way for head coach Mike Brandt's team was rookie Emry Tsitouris, who accounted for a game-high 15 points to go along with a game-best 10 boards. It marks her second consecutive double-double performance.
Mackenzie Reese netted 14 points while Mariah Durian reached double figures with 13. Durian also distributed five of the team's outstanding 17 assists.
USC Aiken drained 23-of-49 shots (46.9 percent) for the game and out-rebounded the Bulldogs by a 47-39 margin. Brandt's team dominated the paint, outscoring Barton 32-12. The Pacers also posted a 16-0 edge in fast-break points.
Leading 12-9, Tsitouris buried a pair of free throws for a seven-point margin. After a three-pointer by the visitors, Reese drained a jumper and Tsitouris netted another two charity tosses for an eight-point lead at 20-12.
USC Aiken extended the advantage to double digits when Durian slashed through a pair of defenders for a lay-up with 6:27 to play. Kassy Johannsen's lay-up and Reese's two free throws pushed the score to 29-14. Moments later, Carly Gilreath's three-point shot off a pass from Kate Duff made it a 35-14 contest at the 3:01 mark.
Although the Bulldogs pulled within 11 to start the second half, Reese made back-to-back jumpers for a 39-24 lead.
Leading 56-42, Katelyn Grisillo hit a twisting lay-up and Johannsen followed it up with another inside shot for a 60-44 lead with 4:16 to go. After an empty possession on both sides of the court, Johannsen connected for another inside shot for an 18-point edge.
Barton managed to score the final few points of the contest, but USC Aiken cruised to the 11-point win.
The Pacers return to action Friday when they play Central Missouri in Pensacola, Fla., in the first game of the West Florida Thanksgiving Classic. Game-time is set for 12 p.m.
