Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision at Clayton State Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 6-7-2 overall, including a 4-4-1 mark against league foes.
Head coach Sue Vodicka's team earned a corner kick just 46 seconds into the match, but the squad was unable to get a shot off. USC Aiken garnered another corner kick in the seventh minute, but the team was turned away by Clayton State.
The home team got on the board in the 12th minute of action. However, Vodicka's team would continue to apply pressure. The Pacers earned their third corner kick in the 25th minute of work and another in the 27th minute. It was not until the 34th minute of action when Caroline Gillespie posted the first shot of the match for the visitors.
In the second period, Sarah Moore tried to even the contest just 18 seconds in, but her attempt narrowly missed the left post. She blasted the team's next shot, which came in the 50th minute of play.
Clayton State added its second score at the 53:07 mark.
Gillespie launched another shot in the 54th minute of action, but once again the Clayton State keeper was up to the challenge. However, USC Aiken was unable to mount a comeback as the home team tacked on the final score of the evening in the 65th minute.
For the match, Nicole Cranny stopped a career-high 18 shots while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes. Vodicka's team earned four corner kicks while allowing just two.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host UNC Pembroke. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m., and has been designated Senior Day.
