SAVANNAH, Ga. - The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 4-0 decision at Armstrong State Wednesday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers are now 6-6-2 overall, including a 4-3-1 mark against league foes.

USC Aiken trailed 1-0 after a shot off a free kick in the 12th minute. Head coach Sue Vodicka's team managed its first shot of the match at the 15:26 mark. Smits rocketed a shot toward the frame, but the Pirates' keeper was up for the challenge.

Heaven Tylee blasted a shot that missed just high of the crossbar in the 19th minute of action. USC Aiken nearly knotted the contest at one apiece in the 23rd minute, but Caroline Gillespie's shot hit the crossbar. Akeyla Furbert got the rebound but booted the ball just wide of the goal.

USC Aiken managed just one more shot on goal in the half, but Furbert was turned away in the 42nd minute. Just seconds prior to intermission, the Pirates scored the second goal of the match.

The Pacers were extremely aggressive in the opening minutes of the second period as Smits, Tylee and Gillespie all registered shots within the first four minutes. Jenna Beauregard missed just wide of the goal in the 51st minute.

Armstrong State netted a goal in the 72nd and 73rd minutes, ending USC Aiken's bid for a win.

For the match, USC Aiken was out-shot 26-14. Nicole Cranny had six saves while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they play at Clayton State. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m.
