AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 1-0 overtime decision to Francis Marion Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers are now 10-3-1 on the season, including a 4-2 effort against league foes.

USC Aiken controlled the match from the outset, but the team was unable to find the back of the net.

Neither team had a shot until the 13th minute when Noel Mais headed the ball just wide of the post. Adria Dalmau followed it up with a pair of shots 10 minutes later and Jan Wester's attempt was blocked by the Patriots.

USC Aiken's control of the ball and the stingy defense did not allow the visitors to record their first shot of the contest until the 37th minute of play - and that attempt missed high.

Brett Smith fired a shot toward the frame, but it was saved . FMU had a couple of late chances in the first period, but one was blocked, one missed wide and Joshua Poissant saved at the other.

Head coach Ike Ofoje's squad continued pushing forward in the second period. Dalmau's header narrowly missed its target at the 52:43 mark. Andre Simmond registered a pair of corner kicks and Rordrigo Goncalves blasted a shot that looked destined for the back of the net in the 66th minute, but it was blocked just a few yards away from the end-line.

FMU pushed forward in the closing minutes, but the defense allowed just two shots - and neither were on goal - in the final 11:53 of regulation.

USC Aiken's Jonathan Dishon missed a shot just wide in the 93rd minute and despite pushing forward, the Patriots managed to earn a shot in the 98th minute that found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

For the match, Ofoje's team out-shot FMU 12-9. USC Aiken earned five corner kicks compared to four by the Patriots.

The Pacers return to action Saturday at Clayton State. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
