Box Score AIKEN, S.C. - The University of
South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team earned a 4-3 overtime
victory against Montevallo Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt
Conference affair.
The Pacers are now 6-5-2 overall, including a 4-2-1
mark against league foes.
Hannah Allison
put head coach Sue Vodicka's team on top in the 13th minute of
action. She took a pass from Megan Smits and
booted it past the diving keeper for a 1-0 edge.
The two combined for the team's second goal less than
two minutes later. Allison headed the ball straight to Smits, who
hammered home the Pacers' second goal of the match.
The Falcons pulled within one in the 18th minute on a
one-on-one, but neither squad could find the back of the net again
before intermission.
Vodicka's squad opened the scoring in the second
period when Akeyla Furbert
found Smits for the program's third goal at the 57:56
mark.
The Falcons soared back, cutting the deficit to one
in the 69th minute and tied the match with just 72 seconds left in
regulation. However, Vodicka inspired the team in the break prior
to the overtime session.
In the 93rd minute, Jenna
Beauregard dribbled down the right side of the pitch. Despite
being at a 45-degree angle from the goal, Beauregard ripped a shot
across the frame from 25 yards out and connected with the
game-winning score.
For the match, Furbert and Smits each had four shots
while Smits posted three shots on goal.
USC Aiken out-shot the visitors 13-7 and earned seven
corner kicks compared to six by the Falcons. Nicole Cranny
played all 92:42 between the pipes in the win, stopping one shot on
target.
The Pacers return to action Oct. 22 when they travel
to Armstrong State for a 3:30 p.m., match.
