Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team registered a 3-0 shutout of visiting Brevard Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers improve to 3-2 on the young season.
After a scoreless first half, Jenna Beauregard fired off a shot from 20 yards away, hitting the post. Megan Smits collected the ball off the rebound and fired home a shot past the diving keeper for a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute of action.
Head coach Sue Vodicka's team continued applying pressure, keeping the ball in the offensive third of the pitch for much of the next 10 minutes. In the 80th minute of play, Aubrey Danielson dribbled across the pitch and rocketed a shot along the ground to the left side of the goal, making the score 2-0 in favor of the home team.
Beauregard earned her second assist of the night at the 86:20 mark. She found Deirdre Ball off a corner kick for a point-blank shot. Ball's shot easily found the back of the net for the final tally of the night.
For the match, USC Aiken out-shot the visitors 19-9 and held an eight-to-four advantage in shots on goal.
The Pacers dominated the contest, earning 13 corner kicks to just three by Brevard.
Alli Edens and Melissa Westphal combined for their second shutout of the young season. Each played a half, with Edens getting the start. Both made two saves in the win.
Smits had six shots, four of which were on goal. Danielson had three shots while Heaven Tylee totaled two from her boot.
The Pacers hit the road this weekend for their Peach Belt Conference opener. The squad travels to Georgia College for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday, Sept. 21.
